HENCE THE NEED TO STRICTLY DEFINE THE COACHING OBJECTIVES
Let me compare the coaching SMART objectives with a sport challenge.
3 months ago a client decided to enhance his sport ability thereby complementing his professional objectives.
In June he signed up for a 10 km race. His "big picture" was this race. He wanted to be ready.
What was important for him?
His real motivation: Kicking off a sport he could continue considering to his age while improving physical fitness
The “hidden objective”: make up the difficulty encountered last year to run the same race
Was the objective Specific?
The frame given was specific: a 10 km race
Was it Measurable?
The objective was 10 km with intermediary goals: 3 times a week, 4km, 5 km, 1 hour, 8 km…
Was the objective Achievable?
A race after 3-month training seemed to be achievable comparing to his last trials.
Was the objective Reachable?
His objective was linked with a deep motivation and with a desire of challenge.
Is the objective Time-bound?
The time frame was reasonable without stress. The period let a place for progressive efforts.
Checking the 6 SMART requirements to root the changes
Scanning the motivation to support efforts
Adding a positive environment to keep focus
Mixing to obtain achieved goals and a huge self-satisfaction..step by step!
