Several articles in France and abroad are debating on the subject.
In fact nowadays they take a big part on the stature and influence of France and run contrary of all the French bashing clichés.
I would like to point out two facts. Firstly, more and more French entrepreneurs are “unhappy” in France therefore they increasingly pack up. Secondly “the French entrepreneur” often succeeds abroad.
Some would anyway be gone away, but others often know that set up a business abroad is a non-choice.
I underline several reasons that lead entrepreneurs to leave France:
- On one hand, the French government regulations and tax pressure and on the other hand, the low tax rate and simple administrative procedures in more attractive countries.
- The fear of failure and the people belief that you will likely be considered bad if you fail, perception for instance less pronounced in Anglo-Saxon countries.
- The motivation of earning money that is still considered as a shame.
- The lack of recognition
- The ‘providence state’ which - with its 35 hours a week, good vacation, a pension and diverse protections - looks after you and takes care to keep you safe without any encouragement to take ownership of your own future.
- The French confidence crisis and the difficult economic environment.
Nevertheless, in spite of the widespread opinion that there is a lack of entrepreneurial spirit among the French, the success of French entrepreneur abroad proves that a French entrepreneurial spirit exists, as well as a real hunger to be his own boss.
The question now is how to give the French entrepreneurs the context they need to practice their entrepreneurial talents and therefore re-boost the French economy?
